New EP: Onitsuka Tiger Presents: Nippon Sounds By Donnis

Last week I posted a first impression of Donnis in conjunction with his new found Japanese-based producers Nippon Sounds powered by Onitsuka Tiger. Now, the full project has gone live and it features interesting collaborations with three of Japan’s most exciting producers and DJs: De De Mouse, Joe Iron and Taku Takahashi. Listen & Download the project after the jump!
25-year-old Rapper Donnis may hail from the hip-hop hotbed of Atlanta, Georgia, but his musical journey began in Tokyo, Japan. While stationed in Japan with the U.S. Air Force, Donnis’ eyes were opened to Tokyo’s vibrant music scene. Inspired to begin recording his music at the base, Donnis soon received the attention of influential DJ Masterkey, who helped the young MC land high-profile opening gigs for visiting hip-hop acts from the U.S.
As part of the Made of Japan initiative, Onitsuka Tiger curated a cross-cultural musical collaboration between Donnis and three of Japan’s most exciting producers and DJs: De De Mouse, Joe Iron and Taku Takahashi. Dubbed Nippon Sounds, the free collaborative EP features original music and remixes from Donnis that bring Atlanta and Japan together in way that has never been heard before.
Personally, I think these producers are too good for Donnis. Props to him for heading to Japan to work with the talents there, but the only thing lacking on this tape is Donnis. Don't get me wrong, he has potential and his hooks suit these compositions, but I just think his vocals are not up to par with the beats....oh well, this will give major buzz for the Japanese producers in the western world.
HYPE!

Props to HT.
