New Track: Wale ft. Miguel – Lotus Flower Bomb [Rap/R&B]

New Mashup: White Panda – Mo Free Mo Fallin’ (The Notorious B.I.G. vs. Tom Petty) [Mashup]

Mashup duo The White Panda are back with another smash mash ready to make some cash...?
Acapella from Mo' Money, Mo' Problems" overthe instrumental of "Free Fallin'" by Tom Petty (Not sure if Mr mayer's version would have sufficed). Too nice.

Video: Neon Hitch - No Hands (Wacka Flocka Cover) [Alternative]

Another solid cover by Neon Hitch - That Roscoe Dash chorus is catchy as hell (secretly I admire Roscoe Dash). Visuals are sweet too.

New Track: Quadron – ‘Wounds’ [Alt-Soul]

A group I have recently found heavy liking to has just unleashed a new record called ‘Wounds’ – which serves as an “alternate take on ‘Simili Life’”.

The vocalist, Coco’s voice is like velvet wrapped in honey, dipped in icing. Goosebumps baby, goosebumps.

Video: J. Cole - Daddys Little Girl [Hip-Hop]

New visuals from J. Cole, comes off his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story.
Probably my favourite track off the album after "Never Told Me". Cop a copy Tomorrow. (Sept 28th for Aus).

Ol' Skool Joint of the day: Case & Joe - Faded Pictures [00's R&B]

Smooth track from the Rush Hour 1 OST by two of the great voices from late 90s and 00s R&B - Case and Joe.

Video: Mac Miller - Smile Back [Rap]

Second single for Mr. Mac "Smile Back" off Blue Slide Park out November 8th.

New Track: 9th Wonder ft. Mac Miller & Heather Victoria – That’s Love [Hip-Hop]

Track coming from 9th Wonders new album "Wonder Years" which features Mac Miller & Heather Victoria. "Thats Love" is a smooth produced track (of course) and about the more sensitive feelings of a Thug/Rapper. You know, we all love being in love right?

The album will feature Raekwon, Talib Kweli, Kendrick Lamar, Erykah Badu and Phonte just to name a few. Out Sept 28th.

New Track: XV - Hoop Dreams [Hip-Hop]

As a lover and fiend for the game of basketball, more specifically the NBA - this song really appeals to me, with XV's powerful lyricism. XV creates a song based on the struggles with comparisons to "Hoop Dreams". Every metaphor is ill. From his Vizzy Zone to his Zero heroes mixptape to his recent releases - XV is on point every time, iller.
Feelin' this song way too much right now. Check it out below.

New Track: Michael Francis – Running Through Your Mind (Prod. The University) [R&B]

Here's the second single "Running Through Your Mind" by new comer Michael Francis. The silky production meanwhile, was composed by The University. If you like what you hear stay tuned for Francis' upcoming project Cold Heart Chronicles set to release on October 31, 2011. Propz to HT

New Track: DJ Komori ft. Cassie - Sound of Love [R&B/Pop]

New Production from DJ Komori for this Pop R&B track for Cassie. "Sound of Love" sounds like a super-bass inspired electro-pop track....but I like it.
Cassie's limited range compliments her soft vocal tone on this track. Its comes across as catchy, pretty and on point...However it just may be missing a couple of aspects to blow up big in the mainstream (I'm sure that was her aim!). Check it out below for yourself.

New Track: Naughty By Nature ft. Joe - Perfect Party [R&B/Rap]

Here is a comeback jam from Naughty By Nature. After becoming the first hip-hop group to perform at the esteemed baseball ground Fenway Park this year - they are ready to hit the scene with fresh material for their upcoming album "Anthem Inc".

"Perfect Party"s beat is bumpin', yet smooth - reminiscent of the 90s house party days. Joe Thomas jumps on the hook and delivers those R&B vocals we know too well. This joint is nice - Who's having a perfect party this weekend?
Listen and download below:

Video: Evidence – You (Prod. DJ Premier) [Hip-Hop]

Premo comes up with this joint for an LP ‘Cats and Dogs’ which will Feature an all star cast including Prodigy, Slug, Aesop Rock, Raekwon, Aloe Blacc and more its sure to be fire. Evidence comes correct - as he should on this.

New Mixtape: How To Make It In America (Season 2) [Soundtrack]

After How To Make It In America was announced for a second season, I was indeed a happy man. There were rumors earlier this year it was being cut – this would have been a complete f*ck-up. Hands down one of the best TV shows to have come out over the past few years (this is especially true now Entourage is over. Sad times).

A big factor to the show’s success has been it’s soundtrack, which has already been proven quite (ask Aloe Blacc - he got his $). While we wait for the season 2′s premiere on October 2nd (HBO), music supervisor Scott Vener has teamed up with Mick Boogie for the official mixtape for the new series. View the Tracklist below then download the mixtape by clicking this link.

1. Kid Cudi – The New York Intro
2. Future Islands – Balance
3. Theophilus London – I Stand Alone
4. Mugison – I Want You
5. Blood Orange – Sutphin Boulevard
6. M83 – Midnight City
7. Soul Searcher – Can’t Get Enough (DJ Theory Remix)
8. Agoria – Heart Beating (feat. Kid A)
9. Avicii – Levels (Original Mix)
10. Oliver Koletzki & Fran – Hypnotized
11. The Joy Formidable – Austere
12. Little Dragon – Crystalfilm
13. Meek Mill – House Party (feat. Young Chris)
14. Buddy – Awesome, Awesome
15. Summer Camp – I Want You
16. Duck Tails – Killin’ The Vibe
17. Catcall – Swimming Pool

*Entourage and O.C were two other shows with dope soundtracks.

Free EP: Ed Sheeran - Thankyou EP [Alt-R&B]

In celebration of his debut album and hitting #1 on the official UK album chart, Ed Sheeran has offered his fans a free EP titled Thank You. The extended player features two songs which aren’t on his LP (‘Fire Alarms’ & ‘She’), as well as a remix of ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’ featuring Dot Rotton & Scrufizer. Download here.

New Track: Wale ft. Rick Ross & Kevin Cossom – Best Night Ever (DJ) [R&B/Rap]]

New ish from Wale's upcoming Ambition-mixtape. Features Rick Ross and R&B singer Kevin Cossom (C.O.S.S.OM!). Nice 80s R&B sample, real chill.

New Track: Bei Maejor ft. J. Cole – Trouble [Pop Rap]

Bei Maejor collabs with J. Cole for his latest video "Trouble" off his latest mixtape maejorMaejor.
Cole makes the track, otherwise it would be horrible.

J.Cole's Cole World: Sideline Story LEAKED/New Track: J. Cole ft. Missy Elliot - Nobody's Perfect [Hip-Hop]

Today, on sucha odd weathered day - J.Cole's Cole World: Sideline Story unfortunately was leaked, just after its preview session last night.
I am yet to listen to this, but before that I found ‘Nobody’s Perfect’ which features Missy Elliott who sounds real fresh (something I don’t think I’ve said in a while) along side Sir Cole. I like the production, and generally everything about this track. Hopefully the album comes as correct – about to press play on that too.

Make sure you cop the album September 27th.

* Update: Other Standout Tracks - Lights Please (off the Come Up Mixtape), Sideline Story, Breakdown and Dollar And A Dream III, Daddy's Little Girl

New Track: Monarchy ft Britt Love - You Don't Want To Dance With Me [Indie/Synth-Pop]

Monarchy continues putting out unique and amazing electro-pop tunes. Their new single "You Don't Want To Dance With Me" ft Britt Love is different from everything they've done so far, but it's still gold catchy goodness. Synth Pop ftw. Check it out below:

New Track: Kavsrave - Your Love [Indie R&B/Post-Dub]

Jamie Kavanagh Kavsrave is the sound of neon dipped, maximum power R&B as it's dragged through the sewers and elevated to the heavens.

"Your Love" has a dub-infused bassline, R&B production features with looped souful vocals. Really Defining the Indie/Experimental R&B craze thats happening at the moment. George Clinton serenading Beyonce in the great sugar glass elevator.
Listen & Download below:

New Track: Childish Gambino - Bonfire (Full/DJ) [Rap]

Have not heard much from Donald Glover AKA Childish Gambino of late but nornally this kid is is more productive than a Chinese uterus. After hearing the snippets a couple of days ago I was pleased more was coming. As usual, the actor turned rapper convinced the listener with witty wordplay and comedic punchlines.

Listen below the the radio rip. If you have not heard of this kid - where have you beeeeennn?? (on the blogasphere). Download his latest EP Culdesac for a taste.

Artist Check: John West [Soul/R&B]

Intro to another crooner. Emerging soul/R&B singer John West.

"I call it the humble hustle," says John West of his beginnings as a street performer in Los Angeles. "People don't have to stop. When you captivate them, you realize that it's not about you. It's about the song. Music is a service."

John West continues to provide that service with power and poise. Jamming out slick grooves and a seductive vocals - this guy is bouncing with R&B swagger and pop infectiousness. West rocks to the beat of his own drum, creating a style that's bound to win hearts everywhere—and break a few in the process. He's the new voice of Pop/Soul R&B…

Back in April, I heard his first single "Lovely" and was raving about it for weeks. Five months later and we have the video. I’m really feeling this song and expect it to blow up. Pusha T, comes through with two solid verses on this without mentioning cocaine and even puts on a leopard-print vest for the video. I guess ‘Ye really is rubbing off on him.

As far as John West, I think he’s dope. People are going to make the Robin Thicke comparisons, but I personally don’t see it–besides their look, that they’re both white, of course.

and his second single, Loved You.

Video: Frank Ocean - Swim Good [Alt-R&B]

Another visual from the Odd Future vocalist. "Swim Good" video is directed by Nabil Elderkin. Off that nostalgia,Ultra re-release.

Ol' Skool Joint of the day: Foxy Brown - Gotta Get You Home Tonite (ft. Blackstreet) [90s R&B]

Hands-down In my top list for R&B tracks of the 90s. It samples Eugene Wilde's track - also a classic.
Ladies and Gentlemen, just vibe to it.

NEW Track: Jay Electronica – Act II: Patent Of Nobility (The Turn) (Rough Demo) [Hip-Hop]

Just on cue....We've heard some Drake, some J. Cole and now for some new Jay-Elec.
I've said it before and i'll say it again, these three are the present and the future. Jay's the next one to blow up. But the kid is very inconsistent - Consistent in his pen game tho. Here is a rough demo he let loose via his tumblr. Yet another display of gifted syllabic structure and regal soundscape.

Plus that reverb and ‘Erykah’ reference are doing the damn thing.
Praying for a release date. Actually, praying.

Video: Active Child ft. How To Dress Well - Playing House [Alt-R&B]

Since Active Child and How To Dress Well fall neatly into Alter-Hip-Soul, it is a pleasure to see this brand new video drop from the both of them.

Taken from Active Child’s debut, Playing House is a nu pop, falsetto, swagged out with steamy R’n'B lashings and smooth synths. I was diggin' the first time without the video, and now it just makes me like it even more - as if it were possible (One of my top for the year).

Video: Mount Kimbie - Carbonated [Post-Dub]

Mount Kimbie...Probally the first i ever heard of post-dub, and probably the first to do it well.
Here is the video for the single, Carbonated. The hand held camera style fits perfectly with the slightly darkened Kimbie sound which can be found on their Crooks and Lovers LP. A year later and their album still sounds incredibly fresh, hopefully the boys will be releasing new material in the new year. Until then....

New Track: Jesse Boykins III & The Weeknd – B4 The Weeknd Is Thru [Alt-R&B]

Mr. Amorous, Jesse Boykins III pays respect to The Weeknd and finds inspiration in "The Knowing" to bring you "B4 The Weeknd Is Thru" a vocal collage between these two singer/songwriters. Vibe music with a purpose, enjoy.

New Track: Mac Miller - Face The Facts (Prod. DJ Premier) [Hip-Hop]

Mac Miller is getting ready to release an upcoming mixtape hosted by DJ Jazzy Jeff 92 Til Infinity. This new track, "Face The Facts" is produced by one of the heavyweights of Hip-Hop (where would we be without him kinda guy), DJ Premier.
Meanwhile, his upcoming album Blue Side Park is set to take on an impressive lineup of producers such as Pete Rock, DJ Jazzy Jeff & Just Blaze to name a few. That will be due out on November 1, 2011. Stoked for that release. Can't wait.

Video: J. Cole Ft. Trey Songz – Can’t Get Enough [R&B/Rap]

Hot off the heels of unveiling his collaboration with Jay-Z, Cole releases the video for his latest single ‘Can’t Get Enough’ featuring R&B singer Trey Songz.

New Track: James Blake: Not Long for Now [Post-Dub]

After the Bon Iver collaboration "Fall Creek Boys Choir," another audio taste from James Blake's Enough Thunder EP emerges with "Not Long Now" out October 10. Listen to the radio rip below.
Love the vocals, Would like to hear a slick remix.
Speeds up at the 3.20 mark to get your village on.

New Track: J. Cole Ft. Jay-Z – Mr. Nice Watch [Hip-Hop]

Jermaine and Sean increasingly getting their Dubstep on. Interestingly something about it seems like a deliberate trip back to Timbo/Jigga’s work during the Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life period…

Despite this, the record feels overrated. Hate to re-enforce the comparison, but Drizzy got the epic grandmaster/apprentrice driven ‘Light Up’ and Cole’s left with… ‘Mr. Nice Watch’? Come on now. You’d forget he’s signed to Nation of Roc at this rate.
Still hoping Cole World: A Sideline Story delivers this guy’s potential, Sept 27th.

New Track: Florence & the Machine – Shake It Out [Indie Pop]

New single from Florence and the Machine's upcoming second LP Ceremonials Shake It Out features that "Lost in the Garden" mystical pop sound mixed with the acoustics that we have all come accustomed to. Ceremonials out October 31.

Video: Frank Ocean - Thinking About You [R&B]

Frank Ocean lets loose an unusual visual to go alongside his ballad. Filmed by LA based group High5 Collective, Village people, a dying woman...what else would you expect from Ocean?

We have three acts that are regulars here on alterhipsoul which have now been combined to make a dope...dope mashup. Kanye West, M83 and White Panda - which makes this Kanye West's 4th (good) mashup in a month.
White Panda (Tom Evans and Dan Griffith) have reconnected the hit "Good Life" which features T-pain by mashing it with M83′s “Midnight City.” A combination that will surely enhance your mood on this one cold night...Midnight Life.

3 New DRAKE Tracks: "Club Paradise", "Free Spirit" & "Round of Applause" [Rap]

Drake appears to be in a generous mood as he announced to unleash three tracks tonight.

Here is the first audio treat, entitled "Club Paradise". Doesn’t sound like it’s been mixed-down entirely but the pudding is there. The track was named after a famous strip club in Toronto
The strip club/mother topics that popped up in his past content show signs of development along with his own self-awareness on this one.

The Next one, "Free SPirit features Mr. Rozay Rick Ross for a verse.
Noah ’40′ Shebib’s atmospheric weave of seasonal affective sounds and trademark filtered drums hinting ‘Take Care’ may have more layered stylings, than the ordinary ‘Headlines’.

Narrative-driven album material > street-single material. Then again, unconfirmed weather this will make the LP out October 24th.

and then here is the Last of a hat-trick…"Round of Applause" which only features Drake.
New single from that guy WAKA WAKA produced by Lex Luger - which has that mid-2000s Three 6 Mafia feel.

New Remix: Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know (Neon Stereo Remix) [Dubstep]

With remixes for heavyweights such as Deadmau5, Steve Angello and Andy Caldwell, Australian Beatsmith, Neon Stereo has turned in another great refix. The Aussie decided to grace "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye with a superb bootleg remix. Neon Stereo succeeds to blend the intriguing vocals of the original version with heavy dubstep elements. Check it out below. Check Gotye at the Foreshore Music Festival (Canberra).

SBTRKT ft. Roses Gabor – Pharaohs [Alt-Electronic]

Brand new video from Alter-Hip-Soul's (and probably everyones) favourite masked producer SBTRKT, this one features singer Roses Gabor…

New Track: Foster The People ft. Kendrick Lamar – Pumped Up Kicks (DJ Reflex Remix) [Indie/Rap]

Currently, Foster The People's "Pumped Up Kicks" sits two spots away from topping the UK Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Over the past few months, the indie-pop song has been blowing up. One of the better remixes of the track comes from L.A rapper, Kendrick Lamar. With the assistance of Power 106's DJ Reflex on the production side, Lamar put some verses over one of the biggest surprise hits of the year. Download below.

New Track: T-Pain ft. Wiz Khalifa & Lily Allen – 5 O’Clock [Pop Rap]

Just when you thought autotune was making an exit from the game, T-Pain returns with an intriguing lineup consisting of Wiz Khalifa and Lily Allen of all people. It's the first single being offered from T-Pain’s upcoming album rEVOLVer due out later this year. T-Pain also has a music video set to drop towards the end of the month.

Video: Goapele - Play [Neo Soul]

Here’s Goapele’s video for her new sexy single ‘Play’ taken off her upcoming album Break of Dawn, due out October 24th.

Video: Big Sean ft. Kanye West & Roscoe Dash – Marvin & Chardonnay [Rap]

Big Sean unveils the video for his Kanye West and Roscoe Dash-assisted single "Marvin & Chardonnay". The clip was helmed by Hype Williams and follows the Detroit emcee and his mentor having fun with a crew of voluptuous women against colorful backdrops.

New Track: XV - The Kick [Hip-Hop]

After watching Inception (Top movie of the past 5 years in opinion) with a group of friends, I was amazed at not just the quality of the cinematography, script, directing and acting - rather I was most pleased with the Score and soundtrack...Later on, found out that it was Hans Zimmer who produced the score. Should have known, Because let's face it, Hans is the only one who can bring out such brilliant cinematic music. - Buy the Inception soundtrack here.

Now DJ Tech-Neek has produced an new track for Rapper,XV using an intriguing sample of "Time" by Hans Zimmer off the Inception soundtrack.
XV has been gone a long time, but XV makes sure to let his followers know that he has not been going anywhere far away from the mic as he drops a new joint called "The Kick" - which also pays reference to the Inception script. "I'm inside of a Dream, that i never want to quit, so I'm just sitting back waiting for the 'Kick'!" .
Certainly worth your while.

Artist Check: Neon Hitch [Alternative Pop]

Jesse J meets Lady Gaga meets Kreyshawn meets Ellie Goulding. An Intresting mix yes? well thats how I would describe British dance-pop singer Neon Hitch. Hailing from London, this nitty gritty diva has come to the Pop scene with an alternative approach.
A lot of people don’t seem to care about Neon Hitch, but you know what I say to that? I say that I don’t care about people who don’t care about Neon Hitch, because this bitch is fierce and you lessors will deal.

Because Neon is so edgy, unique, awesome etc, she’s gone and covered Wiz Khalifa’s “On My Level”, complete with an artsy hood music video to match. Neon’s switched up the beat from Khalifa’s original, but it’s still completely urban — she didn’t flip the song upside down or anything.

If you’ve been following Neon for a while, then you’d know that she’s been doing killer covers and mashups on Youtube for years. Her best is the gorgeous Sia/Mike Posner mash, which currently stands as one of the most watched clips on her Youtube channel. Check out below one her more original pop songs.

However, here is where she gets me. She returns on the backdrops of NYC with a new cover, this time covering Kreayshawn’s claim to fame single, ”Gucci Gucci.” Not as eccentric as the original, but the minimalist approach in sound is still quite impressive. This one has been on repeat the last week or two. Also check her cover on Mr. Miller's Donald Trump.

Ol' Skool Joint of the day: Tank - Maybe I Deserve [R&B]

Heres a smooth R&B ballad by the veteran crooner, Tank.
"Maybe I Deserve" comes off Tank's Debut album "Force of Nature" from 2001. Definitely one of the most underrated singers/producers/writers and one of my person favourite in te R&B game past/present/future. If you don't know, now you know.
Big ups to Miss. Simple for making me re-listen to Tank all day today.
