Canadian electro-pop duo (and real-life married couple) New Look present their lead single Nap on the bow of their debut album...
Alter.Hip.Soul Artist: Logic
Logic is a relatively underground rapper but he’s surfacing fast with his clever wordplay and fast paced flow. He’s got that true hip hop swag...
Local Artist Check: Miracle
You Have probally heard of this young and upcoming rapper who goes by the name of "Miracle" or "Miracle the boy wonder".
No hiltop hood, but hes' also no "Fake Yank" rapper either...Miracle is just.... real.
The Weeknd recommended this the other day. I like what’s happening to R&B this year. Bit dark, somber....nice.
Call it what you wish...Alternative R&B, Indie R&B, Experimental R&B, Post-dub, future soul - I Don't care...Its bringing an intrest back to R&B, which will hopefully make the real cats come out to play.
I am loving the influx of new R&B female singers, in all their various forms. From Jhene Aiko, to Rochelle Jordan and now Stacy Barthe’s who’s debut EP has just arrived.
Having already written hits for the likes of Rihanna and Britney Spears, it’s now time to be introduced to Stacy Barthe the artist. Her Sincerly Yours EP features her recent Frank Ocean collaboration, as well as 7 other brand new songs.

Manchester's remix aficionado Star Slinger has added another creation to his impressive rework catalogue. After reinterpreting tunes by the likes of Toro Y Moi and Washed Out among others, it is now Fixer's new single "Swimmmhaus Johannesburg" that receives a proper rework. Those drums, the pads over those vocals….Jheeeeeez and bread. For more Star Slinger goodness and to download this track, head over to his Soundcloud page (for some more free goodness).
As promised, The Dream dropped his free 1977 LP later today.
I can’t really say much on this, I’m about to download it myself – so no intellectualising today on the tape, but make sure you download it to do one for your self. The-Dream normally drops some R&B magic. Download the tape for free here.
A day prior to the arrival of The-Dream's internet album 1977, comes a new track by the man for your listening pleasure. Entitled "Wake Me when It's Over," the slow-building, hook-laden song offers a story about a failed relationship in the life of Terius Nash. Listen to the tune below and be on the lookout for 1977 to drop later today and for his fourth album The Love, IV: Diary of a Madman.
In the midst of our electronic influenced age, it is a pleasure to hear some vintage soul in the air. Meet Alter-Hip-Soul's Artist of August, Michael Kiwanuka. He is UKs 23 year old answer to Aloe Blacc.
Tell Me A Tale is his first release via Communion Records and is most definitely guided by many 60/70′s soul legends. Manipulating a classic era, Michael Kiwanuka succeeds in sounding fresh and current. The Track has a nice brass presence, a rich saxophone finish and vocals that seem to go well beyond the years he has walked this earth, Kiwanuka gives something alot more than the norm.
If you dig the Raphael Saadiq or Aloe Blacc vibe, I would suggest learning this guy’s name too.
Here is his new folk track from the forthcoming EP I’m Getting Ready out September 18th. I have great hopes for Kiwanuka. Keep on the lookout.
After releasing his "King of Hearts" album in July, Lloyd from the southside returns with some nice R&B. Produced by the Runners, Lloyd sings "I dont have a S on my chest, but you deserve nothing less" to his girl talking about being a "superhero".
Cliche? Maybe. However, Lloyd hits it with this one. His emotive vocals run very well with the Runners production, building a quite pleasant track. Behind every superhero lies a beautiful woman.
Meaning to post this for a while now. After digging into Daley's mixtape, "Those who wait" last month, I was not surprised at the quality of it. Alter-Hip-Soul's artist of July/August delivered on this. With his first single, Game over being a stellar joint, he followed it by Those who wait (Download below) and Alone Together which Features honey laced vocals from Marsha Ambrosius. He finished up the mixtape with some solid acoustic covers of Like a virgin and Pretty Wings. The real deal. Hope this guys blows up.
This morning I opened my inbox to find this sexy gem. New track from Goapelle called ‘Play’ which comes off her forthcoming album Break of Dawn. Mmmm Sounds good.
Bieber goes in on Drake’s ‘Trust Issues’ and I can’t lie – the kid does a pretty decent job. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again – this kids got real talent beyond his Pop career. Just remember what happened when Justified dropped. Give this one a few years, who knows…
At this point, there's no denying that Mac Miller's movement is a strong one. For every 100,000 followers Mac obtains, he's given a new track to his fans. For surpassing the 800,000-follower-mark, he lets loose this Clams Casino-produced cut, entitled "Cold Feet." The track will not be on his upcoming debut album, Blue Slide Park, which is due out later this year.
One of my favourite rock bands, Blink 182 are set to release their long-awaited album Neighborhoods due on September 27. Here is the video to accompany one of their first singles "Up All Night." So glad these guys are back together.
Mr. Sex therapy returns with some freshness. From telling you how he likes it in the morning, he moves to some more vintage soul on "I'm an Animal". The soulful cut is an early audio taste from the singers upcoming fifth album, which is due in late 2011/early 2012. The next track Mission is a trip back to classic Thicke. Honey-laced vocals over some smooth chords. Beautiful. Check them both out below.
Here is the new single from Manchester's Damu. It comes off the upcoming debut LP, Unity which drops November 7th. Don't judge it from the beginning, wait for the build - skyscraper on this one.
Last month I posted the classic, "Love don't live here anymore" by Rose Royce. This week it appears as a sample on a beautiful 9th wonder production.
From the upcoming longplayer Charity Starts At Home, ‘Not Here Anymore’. Good Vibes on this one.
Download below.
The announcement of James Blake and Bon Iver working on a collaboration shook the entire music industry. Now the record, entitled "Fall Creek Boys Choir," has appeared in its full glory. Justin Vernon on the vocals, James on the production.
Piled up in my list of ”must listen to” albums, there lay Active Child. In the that misty cloud of lo-fi, lies the distinct nature of Active Child and his alternative instrumentation.
After the success of his Curtis Lane EP last year and successfully setting his self aside from the Washed Out and How To Dress Well - Active Child produces his debut album.
Toronto's most promising R&B singer, Rochelle Jordan releases her album R O J O. Influenced by the likes of Amerie, Aaliyah, Samantha James, Drake and The Neptunes, the up-and-coming songstress is expected by to "bring back the '90s." TThe album is all produced by her in-house producer Klash.
Released back in 2009, Royce Da 5’9”‘s long-delayed Street Hop LP received high praise from reviewers blogasphere, but didn’t seem to get the large-scale attention or sales it deserved. So he re-released the project, with a few extras including My Own Planet which finds Royce flowing over Mr. Porter‘s space-age synths and snap-clap percussion.
Royce delivers bars laced with trash talk and laid-back wit. G.O.O.D. Music's Big Sean arguably steals the show, asking fans to “...hold your girl close and scream ‘B-I-G’ like you recognize a ghost.”
Dope Track all together - Download below.
The track came back to my attention when choreographer Shaun Evaristo taught a routine in Sydney (which some of my mates took part in) - then released a video for the same routine. Check it out below.
Being offered today is a (un?)official visual for Weeknd's "The Birds (Part 1)" off "Thursday" mixtape released last week. The clip features Akiko Mims, but no Abel as of yet.
R&B Joint from the 1999 album Kima, Keisha & Pam by female R&B group, Total. This track always does this to me - Makes you reminisce about those good/bad times you had with that special someone.
Don't get too upset now.
Some Freshness just came through my inbox. Check out this new track by Bwana. Some nice Post-dub, breaks music for ya. Slick Dance track or just a Sunday relaxation chune. Listen and Download below.
With the influx of Indie Rap and crossover with Pop, Caucasian MCs are on the come-up. I've never seen this much talent and swag - taking over this new genre of Indie Rap. Here is another one to add to the new age MCs - Hi-Rez.
I don’t know about you, but when I get a free house it is just a few pals around and a few casual drinks, Rez on the other hand rounds up a bunch load of fine broads for a pool party. His “Early Release” album is out now.
Here is some food for your soul. Production Group Question release their new EP of Jazz/Hip-Hop/Soul Instrumentals. Very nice for a Sunday afternoon. Listen to a preview track below, and click the link for the full EP download. Layback and relax.

So between running on no sleep and having so much uni work to get done, sitting down to listen to Hoodie Allen’s fourth project “Leap Year” was a nice break. Hoodie hit my radar when my mate 8 Beats (PB) inboxed me his "White girl problems" track. I was instantly intrigued to find out more.
Steven Markowitz AKA Hoodie is a Jewish rapper from New York. He graduated with a a Finance and Marketing degree who went on to work for Google. However, he gave up that job for more time to pursue his music career. He has dropped 3 mixtapes since 2009 (The Bagels & Beats EP, Making Waves and Pep Rally) but is still unsigned. His new tape "Leap Year" dropped last month.
You will probably notice that I don't post every track and every mixtape as soon as it drops. This is because I have got in the process of listening to each track on the mixtape numerous times so that I can actually enjoy them for the musical value (basically appreciate the artist's hard work). I can honestly say that Hoodie Allen came to win with Leap Year, and stole a few spots on my iPod.
From the second you hit play Hoodie hits your ears with some feel good music that just keeps coming at you throughout the 13-track project. I’m not sure if it’s the sick bars, iLL beats, or possibly the overall dopeness of this project, but I’m a fan. I zoned out for a solid hour, indulged in good music, and after it all I wanted hit play again. So do yourself a favor and hit play below. I would usually pick my favorite songs, but I’m not trying to even mess with that battle.
Here is one my other fave upcoming singers from Toronto. Rochelle Jordan releases this interlude video promoting her debut album R O J O. Track is produced by Co-Stars. Check it out up top.
Thursday, August 18, 2011 has come and gone, but the day didn't leave us empty-handed. For the whole summer it seems, everyone has waited in anticipation for Thursday, the sophomore mixtape from Canadian singer Abel Tesfaye—better known as The Weeknd (Pronounced Weakened, not Weekend like these noobs are saying).
He impressed the music world with his high-scaling vocals over mellow production on his debut, House Of Balloons, which was released back in March and has helped garner a tremendous amount of excitement and buzz around him. Now, with every fan and music executive alike watching and listening, it's time to see if the still unsigned artist can keep the momentum going. Thursday is comprised of nine tracks, a few of which have hit the blogosphere over the past few months and the majority of which are brand new, including the Drake-assisted song "The Zone".
I keep saying it - In his own way, this guy will be the revival of R&B in this post-dub alternative era.
One of my top TV drama shows in back. Finally. HBO's How to Make it in America is ready to be launched for a second season, and here is the trailer. Already having Kid Cudi in the roster,
Pusha T and Pharrell will be joining the team aswell. You'll see both of them in this trailer. Aired October 3 here in Australia (Online). Stay Tuned.
Leave the rock american women, onto the sweet girls. Lenny Kravitz is back with some new material. This one being the better tune which features Mr. Big feature himself, Drake. This Funk infused alt-electro beat with Lenny's vocals is a great way to groove into the weekend!
The Track is off Kravitz' new album "Black, White America" which drops this year. Listen and download below.
After their first single, Cowabunga - Nappy Boy's One Chance come back with a R&B jam for the fiends out there. This comes of the "Aint No Room for talkin' mix-tape which I posted a couple of months back. Personally, I would have rather'd this as their lead single, but I understand the need for a 'dance' tune as the lead.
Like I said before, I was feelin' these guys back in 2005 when they debuted, Loved their demos during the gap years - and now their mixtape has been getting heavy rotation - especially this track. Check the video - It may put you in the mood ;)
As Joe prepares for his world tour to promote his new album "The Good, The Bad, The Sexy" - out September 27th, He drops this new video for "Losing". Peep the video up top.
Not as strong as he once was, but the man still bringing that real R&B. Check him in concert on September 10th in Sydney. Tickets here.
As we wait for Abel Tesfaye's new mixtape Thursday today - Grandtheft from Team Canada Dj’s reworks The Weeknd's "Rolling Stone" tune. Bit Loungy aye. Check it out below.
Today Mr. Malcolm Miller drops a new tune with visuals. "Frick Park Market" is rumored to be the first single off "Blue Slide Park", Mac's debut album which comes out later this year. Lets hope Mac doesn't take the same path wiz did. Stay Dope Mac, Most Dope.
Nabil Elderkin edits some nice visuals for "Holocene" displaying a young boy on a discovery trip to the nature, thus perfectly fitting the Justin Vernon's angelic voice and the smooth melody.
Over 100,000 downloads Kenton Dunston's Creative Destruction 2 in just over a month, up and coming artist Dunson lets loose his new tune "Top of the World". Produced by Dunson himself, the track samples Passion Pit's hit song "The Reeling" which proves to be a solid instrumental backing for the reflective lyrics. Listen and Download below
Florence & The Machine has received ANOTHER rework for “You’ve Got The Love.” While there have been multiple renditions of the tune, it has never been reinterpreted the dubstep way. Beatsmith, Revolvr is now filling this void as he transforms the pop song into sub bass driven, down-tempo tune. Check it out below.
The RED album is turning out to be something. Here's another early tune which finds the Compton rapper sharing the mic with Drizzy Drake on "Good Girls Gone Bad." Dedicated to missing teen Natalee Holloway, this ode to the good girls that have gone in the wrong direction displays a gentler side from both rappers. The R.E.D. Album arrives on August 23.
Exciting news hit the music world today as James Blake announced an upcoming collaboration on August 24 via Twitter earlier today. Entitled "Fall Creek Boys Choir," it remains to be seen what form this musical get together will take.
With the huge association to SBTRKT, Sampha’s popularity has grown immensely. After listening to his EP over a year ago, knew this chap would get big. The differing dynamics he uses with his vocals is amazing. He dropped this new track less than 24 hours ago and I have played it at least 5 times in the last 30 minutes.
His husky, yet sweet tone sits with me as the piano led balled takes a back seat. New project on the way? I hope. Until then I’m going to play this back a few more times.
The original is still a smash, even though it has not hit the charts here yet. The Drake remix came thorugh and certified it. Now the rapper/producer Drumma Boy and Shabazz Palaces jump on SBTRKT’s beat. And although reworked three times down the line, it still sounds good.
Here are the visuals for J.cole's "Work Out". Lovin' the early naugties vibe/scenery as it is set at the neighbourhood Basketball courts and a house party - not at some club with bottles of champagne everywhere. Cole keepin' it real, for real.
Its the first track from the Cole World: The Sideline Story LP. September 27th couldn’t come sooner.
...The guys that brought you Buzzin' are back.
Malibu rapper Shwayze and singer Cisco Adler will release on September 13rd their collaboration album, Island In The Sun. Here's the video premiere for the song "You Could Be My Girl"
Lateef the Truthspeaker also known as The Truthspeaker is very talented. His potent lyrics certainly hold weight, as his family lineage traces back to the Black Panthers. His new LP due out on November 8. Check out one of the first songs from that project below!
Remix Artist Collective offers a tropical-infused rework of Alex Winston's new single "Velvet Elvis." The original version of ‘Velvet Elvis’ is featured on the forthcoming Velvet Elvis EP, available September 5. Listen below!
